If you are a foreigner who plans to travel to remote areas of Indonesia, you may be surprised when visiting a toilet. Imagine you've just had too much spicy saus sambal and are in some serious need and instead of something that you'd normally expect to find in WC, you'll see something like this: indonesian toilet Ooops, a major problem here! How to use this thing?!?! Fortunately, folks in India are using similar toilets and apparently foreigners have quite a problem using it, so a little manual was painted on the wall aimed to help silly foreigners to use this unique toilet. Obviously it's applicable to Indonesian traditional toilets, so you may find it useful:

indonesian toilet indonesian toilet indonesian toilet indonesian toilet indonesian toilet indonesian toilet I hope it's clear now. Please Visit Indonesia Year 2008.

No words mentioning the use of left hand?

I think the "silly foreigners" can be applied universally, as this would explain the foot prints on a western style toilet. Right!!!

Just remember, something different sometimes does need an explanation, the user may not be "silly" just uninformed.

A dozen years ago, en route by bus from Yogya to Bali with my 73 year old father, we stopped at a rest area.

My father went to the row of squat style toilets out back. He was such a long time that I started to get worried, especially as the bus driver was urging us to board.

When my father emerged, I asked what had taken so long.

"I missed," he said.

BTW. Where did you get that picture of the toilet, Marek? I've never seen one in such pristine condition in this country!

Step by step guide is good people. Trust me. We have a full blown step by step guide, with pictures on how to use the flushable toilet at our female toilet at work. (Lift the lid, sit, do your do, do not squat, flush after that, and wash your hand, with soap if available) Why was the sign put up? Because some random female workers were using them, doing no 2 and not flushing (not even stuffing the pile with any toilet rolls to cover the sight).
So.... this issue doesn't happen in Indonesia only, or India only, with the traditional toilet only. Also in Australia - in one of the Top 50 Accounting firms.

Susah sekali kalau mau bikin sesuatu di toilet2 dari indonesia, apa lagi tidak tau kenapa tapi selalu keluar basah.
Maybe because all toilet in Indonesia are wet??
Dan kenapa tidak ada kertas?

Thank you! I am in Indonesia for a month and was struggling!

But how do you dry yourself after washing? Most traditional toilets do not hve paper in them, and I'll be stuffed if I'm going to walk out with water running down my legs or wet pants!!!
